#kde-multimedia had a large turnout, with a peak of 26 participants. This
shows that the KDE and aRts community has a large interest in adding video.

There was so much turnout, in fact, that participants could not agree on
one path for video development in aRts and KDE. Some wished for a
successor to mpeglib, something that could work within arts, only with
optimizations necessary for high-framerate video. Others saw no need for
aRts itself to be extended for audio, and proposed using an external
video system.

Fortunately there were volunteers willing to code for each approach, so
development has been organized into multiple teams. Development will
commence on multiple paths concurrently. In time, when one is mature and
ready for use by KDE, one will be chosen to be a KDE standard.

The teams are:

Team Blue, who will work on libav, and on integrating video into aRts,
cound as members Ryan Cumming, Matthias Kretz, Charles Samuels, Martin
Vogt, Stefan Westerfeld.

Team Transcode, who will work with the Transcode system, writing the code
necessary for aRts audio integration and KDE application integration,
counts as members Rob Kaper, Neil Stevens, Fabian Wolf.

The as-yet-unnamed Xine team, who would work on Xine integration, seems to
have no members yet, but anyone interested should contact Daniel Molkentin
or Ewald Snel. Ewald Snel has already written an aRts output plugin for
xine.

Don't think of a bug as a problem. Think of it as a call to action.
