I was playing around with the concept of "picking up" something to copy, 
hence the up arrow with the document. And "dropping" something to paste, 
hence the down arrow. But you're right, they're not very intuitive. 

I wonder what the look and feel of the cut and copy icons would be if they 
were handled in a special way. Like if you've selected a JPG, have the copy, 
cut and paste icons be replaced with the icon for the image/jpg mime type, 
and then overlay smaller cut, copy and paste icons on top? In my mind's eye, 
this would be pretty nice. Then drag and drop or just click the cut or 
copy icon? In my mind's eye, a drop down arrow on the paste (like the back 
and forward icons in Konqueror) could bring down a list of other things in 
the clipboard. Sort of integrating an enhanced version of Klipper into the 
toolbar?

Sounds fun anyway :).
