KDE's windows are 100% opaque. I presume you want transparent ones :)

I think konsole (for KDE 2) will have transparency.

Unfortunately, as you have seen with your Windows thing, transparency can slow
the system down. We'll have to wait for X to support it, which should be
faster, before we really consider it.

I believe an alpha channel for X has been discussed and someone may already be
working on it.
