Never, ever, ever delete your ~/.kde directory. If you need to troubleshoot a 
problem like this, rename it to ~/.kde-bak or something similar. If you 
delete it you will lose every icon theme, every colour scheme, every user 
customized setting. Kopete IM logs, IRC logs, possibly even email from KMail. 
Please, rename the folder instead. Then at least all the data is still there 
and possibly can be copied back into your new ~/.kde for a few crucial 
applications.
