Hi,
I found the following thread in the KDE Developers mailing list:

'compile error KDE_3_3_BRANCH in kdepim/kitchensync'

so I deleted my KDE PIM source and checked out the KDE_3_3_BRANCH of KDE PIM 
again. This time the compilation worked. I have now installed the newly-made  
KDE_3_3_BRANCH KDE PIM, and this seems to have fixed the IMAP bugs in Kmail 
which I have been experiencing.
