You probably want to use "-dpi 100" on a 1024x768 monitor.

If you are using KDM, this goes in:

$KDEDIR/share/config/kdm/Xservers

:0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X vt7 -br -dpi 100
:1 local reserve /usr/bin/X11/X :1 vt8 -br -dpi 100
