I just noticed the same thing myself - I'm running it on FC1 on a i686.

Here are some things that *might* have affected it:

1 - I previously ran KDE 3.2 on RH9 which was compiled - the current setup 
with FC1 was an RPM distribution

2 - I disabled the OSS sound system and enabled ALSA to run on its own - and 
it was only after I did that that I noticed the font problem (although how 
that could have anything to do with it I do not know).

3 - I switched from using DSL to Cable for internet access.  And my current 
access is via a cable modem through a router - previously it was through a 
switcher.  The router has a built-in firewall although none of the switches 
are set beyond the factory defaults.

That's about all I can think of.
