I tried using Konstruct but never had any luck with it.  The RPMs are still 
the easiest way.  But, I have also tried downloading the source files and 
compiling them separately - and that worked perfectly.

However, two things you need to keep in mind if you compile from source:

1 - The source files try to install KDE to a standard location - but redhat 
installs KDE to /usr.

2 - You have to be sure you compile and install the source files in the 
correct order (they have a very good tutorial on the KDE website for this).

When I compiled I did it thusly:  ./configure --prefix=/usr 
- --disable-dependency-tracking

(Disabling the dependency tracking saves a considerable amount of time if you 
are only doing a one-time build).
