You may not realize it, but your posting is a little vague.

Just exactly what have you told KMail to do with your outgoing mail?

I.E. in the widget under: "Settings => Configure KMail: Network"

What do you list for "Outgoing accounts" under the "Sending" tab?

And it is probably relavant to ask what have you told the other 
applications to do with your outgoing e-mail?
