I dont use a gui login but I wonder if this is due to having the "auto-login 
on X-server crash" switch on. The system may see logout in the same way as an 
X-server crash although I think what you describe is the correct auto login 
behaviour if the second "Truly automatic login" box is checked so try 
disabling it (or maybe the other way round)
