Yes, but this is the space the ready to run precompiled KDE has. But if you 
compile something you need also the sources and the created object files.

# du -hs /home/cvs/kde_cvs/
603M    /home/cvs/kde_cvs

This is with the following CVS HEAD packages
(compiling finished)(srcdir == builddir)
arts
kdelibs
kdebase
kdeadmin
kdeutils
kdenetwork
kdemultimedia
kdegraphics
kdeartwork
kde-i18n
kdeaddons

But 4GB is more than enough :)
