The following is logged in my ".xsession-errors" file after a failed attempt 
to open konqueror:

kdecore (KURL): KURL couldn't parse URL "--silent"



After several minutes konqueror appears and the following is logged to 
.xsession-errors":

kio (KProtocolInfo): ERROR: Protocol '' not found
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library libuachangerplugin 
(0x870d958)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library libksteakplugin 
(0x86e65f0)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library libbabelfishplugin 
(0x86ead90)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library libkonqaboutpage 
(0x86d3ee0)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library 
libdomtreeviewerplugin (0x8703270)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library libvalidatorsplugin 
(0x87043b0)
kdecore (KLibLoader): The KLibLoader contains the library
