Well the startup scripts and stuff for: "startx" (which is itself a
script) are not the same as for XDM & KDM.  There is no choosing and it
starts whatever you have in: "Xclients" or something.  Actually, it runs
the script: "xinitrc" and that normally calls: "Xclients" (or
~/.Xclients if you have one).
