Okay, done :-).
There's now a 277 mb tarball at http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/krita.tar.bz2 which \
unpacks to ~800 mb -- in other words, totally unoptimized and packs way too much \
junk. But that's for later. Inside, execute krita.sh and krita should start. It does \
on my centos vm...
I wonder whether it'll also run on other linuxes...
