If you use a big brush, select the crosshair option and paint past, you should see that the stroke lags behind the cursor (because the cursor should have a higher painting priority at any operating system). And Cyrille said the cursor would be slightly off center, so i would prefer to not use the crosshair cursor and paint it for the crosshair only option too. But i like the idea with the check boxes.
