Should I ifdef the new code like 

#ifdef INDEPEDENT_CANVAS
newOutlinecode
#else
old code
#endif

Is the INDEPENDENT_CANVAS shipped with 2.1 or still not tested enough?
ifdefs are growing and are little annoying...
