Unfortunately, not in a very efficient way and usable way.

What you can do is (if you also have KWord installed) : Layer > New > Object 
Layer > Text Document, and you have an embedded text document. (But it can be 
very cucumbersome to use).

Thanksfully, for the developement version (expected to be released for between 
the quarter and the middle of next year) we allready have a good text layer 
with advanced editing feature, and ease of use (also based on what KWord 
provides, but without embedding the full application).
