OS/Compiler notes: 

The directory entry field in the file selector won't expand environment variables.  \
When an environment variable is specified (eg. $QTDIR) in the directory field at the \
top of the file selector pane, the autocomplete function will show a list of correct \
completions ($QTDIR/bin, $QTDIR/lib, etc.) but when one of these is selected or typed \
the file selector opens the user's home directory in the folder pane.  The file \
selector should expand the variable and open the specified directory.
