This comes up once in a while. Frankly, I don't understand what is wrong with 
the kate file list...

The problems with the tabbar in the case of Kate are obvious
- if you open more than a few files, you get out of visible space, and needs 
to scroll your tabbar.

- If you split the editing area, you need a tabbar pr frame, wasting your 
screen realestate.

The only smart thing as I see it is that with split frames, you had a listing 
of which documents was actually opened in which frame, but then, how would 
that help anyway?
