OS/Compiler notes: 

Kate crashes a lot (not every time) when I hit ctl-o to open a file.  Sometimes when I use the menu to \
open a file as well. When it crashes it bombs "instantly" after hitting ctl-o.   A search of the web \
indicates others have found this bug.  

I rate this bug "extremely important"
