Subject: DOS formatting gets trashed
From: franknputer@mindspring.com

Package: kate
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 2.2.0 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Linux-Mandrake 8.0 (Traktopel) - Unsupported
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Linux-Mandrake 8.0 2.96-0.48mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.3-20mdk
OS/Compiler notes:

I need to edit text files in a DOS format. KEdit used to handle this fine, but it \
seems that, in upgrading to KDE2.2, neither Kate, KWrite, nor KEdit can identify DOS \
files correctly, auto-converting them without notice, & will not save in a DOS format \
- even when explicitly selected & saved. My files have all crashed, forcing me to go \
to a Windows machine & re-format them with UltraEdit. (UE id's them as non-DOS upon \
opening them, and then I have to convert them one at a time to get them to run \
again.) It goes without saying that this has wasted a great deal of my time.

Personally, this is very bad for me. I have been very happy with KEdit, it did \
exactly what I needed it to do - now, it seems that the KDE editors are useless to \
me. :( PLEASE fix this!!!
