Compiler:          gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.4.13-ac4
OS/Compiler notes: 

When I print ASCII text with kate the
printer output is cutoff after column 56
even though there is approx 4 cm space
left on the paper (without margin).

When I print the same text with lpr
printing works fine.

I am using a Kyocera FSD-1750 PostScript laser printer.
