The problem is even more complicated than that. In KDE, both terms are
used without any clear differentiation: "folder" (Ordner) and
"directory" (Verzeichnis). And while I agree that we should use only
one of these terms I believe that most people would prefer "directory"
(I would). After all, KDE is not only meant for Windows users.

Translation teams are, of course, free to unify the terms to the best
of their knowledge.
