I did this in my my system (RH 6.1) but this doesn't seem to work. 

I discovered that desktop entries are in the $KDEDIR/applnk/ subdirectory
as *individual* .directory and *.kdelink files. I have to edit them
one-by-one to insert tamil names:-( or or write a script to automate it.
