Report of the French translation team meeting
====================================

(forwarded message from François-Xavier Duranceau)
(a much more detailed report, in French, is also available)

Last saturday, 11 members of the French KDE translation team met
in Paris. We had a very nice and useful session that took place
at MandrakeSoft.

The order of the day covered the following topics: web server, docs
translation, apps translation and relations with the French media.

Web server
--------

The state of the translation has been given for the two following servers:
www.kde.org and koffice.kde.org. The translation of www.kde.org is done and we
have a very impressive translated contents. The translation of koffice.kde.org
is almost finished (the recent updates haven't been translated). The news are
quickly translated too and we'll try to have better proofreading.

The major issue concerning the web server is the very poor visibility of
our translations. Everything is hidden behind the 'KDE International' link
and I must admit that finding out our server is really a pain.

Docs translation
------------

Eric Bischoff has given a very interesting overview of the LinuxDoc to
DocBook conversion.

Laurent Larzillère, our docs team leader, gave the current status of the
docs translation (about 60%) and said that we are waiting for the work
achieved by a Mandrake team. Hence we hope to get a good translation ratio
pretty soon. He also asked the translators for better interaction
(concerning the status of their work in progress).

Apps translation
------------

Francois-Xavier Duranceau, our apps team leader, gave the translation status
(about 68%). He explained that better proofreading is needed. This is very
different from the docs proofreading as it has to be done by running the
applications (which needs a running KDE 2 copy). Reading a .po file is not
very useful as you miss the app context. It was decided that we'll burn
Krash CDs and have an internal release when KDE 2 release process is
started (or just after some weeks).

Press team
--------

We decided to create a new subteam dedicated to the relations with the press.
The team leader will be Joëlle Cornavin. She will quickly write a first
skeleton of our press-book. Thanks to Herve Lefebvre, member of the team, who
has a good experience of the French press, we hope to build some good stuff.
