Hi all,

The DocBook team (Frederic Fouvry, David Rugge and myself) are
proud to announce that kdebase's and kdeadmin's documentation has been
converted to docbook (except kdebase/doc/kikbd which has some problems in it).

The translators won't be able to start again translating because kde-i18n
hasn't been converted yet, but they can already have a look, and start
downloading and testing the docbook tools in updated package kdesdk.

The authors of documentation in kdebase and kdeadmin can start modifying the
docbook files if they like to, but it would be wise to wait for some manual
cleanup.

This manual cleanup will be a huge job for several people, because the automatic
conversion produces a result that is far from being intelligent DocBook. The
conversion logs are temporarily stored in the CVS tree to help this cleaning
process.

All the converted files have been tested to convert to HTML with success.
However, the result may not look as good as the previous one : we will need to
tune the KDE stylesheets, and the manual cleanup will help a lot.

Please note that the HTML files have now disappeared from the CVS tree. They
will be rebuilt at packaging time. If you regenerate them on your hard disk,
please do not commit them (hmmm... .cvsignore files should be updated).

The KDE logo, logotp3.png, will now be accessed through a symbolic link to a
directory that will be shared among docs. This symbolic link will be built at
installation time. This shared directory will hold the GPL licence as well.

The makefiles haven't been adapted yet to the new organization.

The other packages (kdegames, kdeutils, ...) will be converted in the next days
and are STILL FREEZED. Any change you would do to the LinuxDoc file would be
lost.
