Hi all,

this is a announcement of a tool, that I developed while working for
the german translation team and it is used by it.
I think this could be useful for other teams, too.

kdedict is developed to help translation teams keep the consistency of
the translation all over the desktop and all applications.
You can store your standard translations, that should be translated by everybody
the same way, in the database and make it available over the www.
( BTW: kdedict is a CGI-script )

Since kdedict uses Perl (with some additional modules) and the database is
stored in an ordinary textfile, the team members can install it local and just
have to update their database file. So you don't have to be connected to the
internet all the time.

Features:
- search the database at word fragments, beginning of words and exact words.
- search for entries, entered since a specific date.
- list entries, that belong to a specific category
- Mark translations (and search for this marks), that your team isn't in
   agreement about.
- add comments to the translation, i.e. the context of the translation
- easy maintaining of the database in maintain mode
- easy to localize, without changing the source code

See http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~Matthias.Kiefer/cgi-bin/kdedict_demo.cgi
for a working demo, which uses the german translation database.

For more information, especially where to get and how to install kdedict look
at http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~Matthias.Kiefer/en/kde/kdedict.html

I hope it will be useful. Comments are welcome!

regards,
   Matthias
