The KDE translation application Lokalize is supposed to already *have* 
this feature. It's called ‘Widget text capture'.

Though I can't get it to work. Actually, even the dialogue box for 
setting up this feature doesn't work (it doesn't respond to any clicks 
on the ‘OK' or ‘Cancel' buttons).
