No that's "correct" - the reason is that the limit here is the maximum texture size \
GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE The value holds for either direction, so if it's eg. 4096 for \
you, your screen may be "up to" 4096x4096 Of course you likely don't have a square \
screen and virtually no screen will have a 4096px in any dimension, but this is also \
mostly a matter of multiscreen setups where the specific layout causes the exception.

So maybe the string should say:
  "or lower the resolution to no more than %1x%1." , limit[0]);
