Subject: New Language :: Alemannic/Swiss German (gsw)
Hi there,
I’ve seen that there are currently no Alemannic translations of KDE and even
no Mailing Lists available. However, as this language is in daily use by
more than 8 million people by all germanophone Swiss, in the French region
of Alsace, in wide part of southern Germany and the Austrian region of
Voralberg, it is imperative to have KDE available in that language.
For this purpose, I ask you to create a new mailing list for
“Alemannic/Swiss German”.
The corresponding code as by ISO 639-2 is “gsw” (see
http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php).
I presume, an Alemannic translation has so far not been offered as the
language has no standardized form but merely consists of hundreds of various
dialects. However, as a native speaker that is aware of the differences, I
decided to work on a moderate version, avoiding extreme features of some
dialects, so that the result can be considered the ‘highest common
denominator’ and is easily understood by all Alemannic (but not only Swiss)
speakers.
Its category as by Linguasphere is “52-ACB-fab” and can be found here:
