I did have a quick look to see who else supports these, it looks like we are 
establishing fairly new territory here as Qt, Gnome, Gtk, Evolution, Sunbird 
etc appear to only directly support Gregorian.  In fact, I haven't found a 
single FOSS calendar app besides kdepim that natively supports anything but 
Gregorian, but I could be missing something.

Emacs does support a number of calendars so you may find translations there.  
See http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Calendar-
Systems.html#Calendar-Systems.  But that's about it in the FOSS world apart 
from the odd little applet specialising in Islamic or Hebrew calendars.

Mac and Windows support a number of different systems, more than we currently 
do.

Standards like iCal while making allowance for other systems leave the 
specifics undefined, so I suspect most implementations avoid the issue 
altogether. (e.g. SCALE in iCal defines GREGORIAN default and no other values, 
MS and Apple both have their own X-SCALE-xxx definitions to work around this).  
POSIX locales defines the Gregorian month names but nothing else and have no 
concept of different systems I can find.

So basically we have a chance to set the standard both in translations, and  
in the case of iCal quite literally as kdepim may have to propose revisions 
the standard to define SCALE properly  :-)  Qt probably won't get anything 
before Qt5 when I hope to convince them to build calendar system support 
directly into QDate.  (But most of that's off-topic here).
