I don't think there is an alternative. But of course this affects only the
modules actually released with KDE. So trunk is always the development
branch, stable is for the next bugfix release. And we will stop doing KDE 3.5
releases once KDE 4 is released in its full beauty. And if we do, we do a KDE 
3.5.X just for some heavy bugs, not necessarly for translation updates, so we
can happily use the kde-i18n in a 3.5 branch.
