Hello,
The current Gettext Arabic plural forms expression is not suitable. After a
long discussion [1], due to the complexity of handling numbers in the Arabic
language (the counted item form changes according to the range of its
number), we agreed [2] on using this one:
"Plural-Forms: nplurals=6; plural=n==0 ? 0 : n==1 ? 1 : n==2 ? 2 : (n % 100
>=3 &&
n % 100 <=10) ? 3 : (n % 100 >=11 && n % 100 <=99) || (n % 100==1) || (n %
100==2) ? 4 : 5;\n"
However I have a few concerns regarding the implementation of this expression
in KDE4:
- Can you confirm that changing the plural forms expression only requires
changing the one in kdelibs4.po and updating (or at least fuzzify) all the
plural messages?
- As you can see in the expression, the first three cases are each for one and
only one number, thus requiring the removal of the number variable, how safe
can KDE libraries support this (Risk of segmentation fault?)?
- Is it possible to automatically comment Arabic plural forms with the
description of each case (so not to confuse translators)?
