I guess the reason is the upcoming different (i. e. standard) gettext syntax 
for PO-files and thus different necessary scripts for trunk (with extragear 
and playground) and KDE 4. 
It might be tricky to teach scripty to sort this out if all in trunk.

I just saw the commit by coolo (Stephan Kulow) yesterday.
