I didn't think KTU was intended for translators.

It's not that complicated to test one's translation if the application is 
already installed.  Besides, in principle, it should be done BEFORE 
committing to svn, right? :)

I'm more interested in an utility or a service which provides users with 
updated translations.  

I have an idea.  Is it feasible? :)

1. First, create a new repository for the latest stable version of all KDE 
applications, those in extragear, kdereview and playground included.  
This repository (latest) only holds pot and po files.  

2. Fetch updated po files from stable or trunk once a week or so and merge 
them with existing ones.   

msgcat -o update.po --use-first fetched.po latest.po
msgmerge -o new.po update.po latest.pot

# When a new version is released, pot and po files in latest will be 
replaced with new ones.
 
3. Create mo files for new po's and put them somewhere else so users can 
get them without installing subversion or msgfmt.  

4. How to get and install updated mo files?

*  Manually Download what he or she wants from a web page and put them 
in /usr/share/locale/xx/LC_MESSAGES?

* There will be an application which detects installed KDE applications 
and automatically check for updated mo files and install them? :) 

It might not be interesting for languages with 100% translations but I 
suppose it would be useful for users of new language teams.  Also, it 
would be good for applications with a long release cycle.  There are a 
few apps that I translated months ago but have not been released with my 
translations...
