Then probably we are not meaning the same thing with "placeholder". For me %1 
is a placeholder too.

Anyway for now, we have no solution that works with full msgfmt --check and on 
the other permits translators to replace the placeholder by "one", "two" or 
something similar.

For using %1 as placeholder, be careful that in many messages you will not 
have %n currently in the msgid. Perhaps it is something that you need to 
write in the KDE4PORTING.html so that least new messages are done correctly.
