Use the program, "patch". If you cd into the gettext-0.14.5 dir, and the
patch file is say, in the dir above, then you might apply the patch to
the source by saying:

patch -p1 < ../gettext-0.14.5-patch6

I think the above will work, you might have to use -p2, if there is
trouble, instead of -p1.

If the patch is in the subdir "patches", then I guess you might say:

patch -p1 < patch/gettext-0.14.5-patch6
