Hi all,

During the past year or so, the Lanka Linux User Group
(http://www.lug.lk, http://www.linux.lk) has been working on a project
(http://sinhala.linux.lk) to add Sinhala language to many Free / Open
Source software programs. We have made very good success in both
KDE/QT and GNOME/GTK fronts. Presently, things have become very
stable and we distribute remastered Knoppix CDs.

We also have patched QT to fix one remaining issue in Sinhala
scripting engine and has already been submitted to QT.

As for Sinhala input, we are working with the QT-IM module group and I
implemented surrounding text support which is required by Sinhala (and
other Asian languages) and also Sinhala input methods.

Now we believe that the infrastructure is mature enough to officially
start a translation project at KDE. The motivation came in after
submitting a patch to add Sinhala to Sri Lanka information page:

If anyone else is also working on this effort, please let us know. We
can work together.

Thanks in advance.

        Anuradha
