Hi,

In December last year, I made a post about possibility of introducing
scripting into translations (subject "Programmable translations"), but it
was just a demonstration of what can be done. In the meantime, I stumbled
upon and figured out some things, so now I have concrete, ready to test
code integrated into KDE.

Bad news immediately: Although source compatibility is practically
preserved (and that was the main reason I went for the implementation),
this code breaks binary compatibility, so it cannot be integrated before
KDE 4.

Anyway, here is a paper on this (it took me far more time to write the damn
thing than to implement the code :), with proto Translator's Scripting
Guide, some notes on implementation, and additional i18n notes for
application programmers:

And here is the source code, corresponding to current CVS HEAD (two files
in kdelibs/kdecore/ changed, two added):

There wasn't much interest in this back in December, so there probably is
not going to be much more now, but I simply had to try and see it for
myself in live KDE apps :)
