please do
LC_ALL=ar > ~/.i18n
and login again. If you use GDM (flame war, flame war...) you can choose the
locale when you log in. Please not that Mandrake uses UTF-8 locales and not
8bit ones.
Mandrake also has a nice tool called "localedrake" please test it, you will
find it quite intuitive.
