PS: On how to run a source code installation alongside your Mandrake
distro, 
see http://developer.kde.org/build/build2ver.html. In the long run you
will 
need to have such an installation.

Don't know about Mandrake (and what KDE version it is using) but it may
also 
be possible to start some apps in Lao there with a command (in Konsole)
like 
"KDE_LANG=lo konqueror" if the mo files are correctly installed.
