Do you realise how much it involves to do that ?
It doesn't fit at all in the current row / view scheme.

If you want this to be the user interface, then we must support splitting
any view in any direction, and we're back to the multi-panner !!!

Hmm, it seems we didn't manage to make a decision on this matter.
I want to remind everybody that 4 views is probably the maximum anybody
will use. But this is a medium value, not a limitation.

Let's list the possibilities :

* two-level nesting, having views either in rows (like it is now), or in columns
[perhaps we could add a 'row/column mode' to switch between both, and
everybody would be happy - if we can find a good label for all menu items]

* N-level nesting, each view being a possible splitter - then the UI is the
one above - I think that's what I wanted to do from the beginning, but
someone said it would be too complicated to go from a vertically-splitted
set of views to an horizontally-splitted one...

* the very complicated multi-panner, which we already ruled out.

It's time to make up our mind.

I personnally don't really care if we choose two-level or N-level nesting,
both represent the same amount of work I think - except that 2-level is
already done ;)

Waiting for your opinions...
