This is exactly the kind of question I didn't meant ;-)

Well, I didn't mean the commiting part at first, but this
could be of course part of the thing. I meant, that you can
download the latest sources from there without big problems.

See 1.0 and 1.1 as two different source trees. If you want
to maintain both, you need to have two get both the 1.0
versions and the daily po_files or both from CVS(up). At
least cvs is able to switch both trees, so I would guess,
cvsup can do the same for you.
