Hi

I summarized some stuff from this list about some experience with
former events and some of my thoughts.

I have not been to Systems so far, but AFAIK it is more
specialized on bussines than CeBIT. So I think even with having a
booth in the LinuxPark, Ralfs suggestions for clothing and
appeareance apply here, too. I summary: Let's try to look
professional :)

With the momentary situtation there _will_ be ppl coming to us,
which want to discuss KDE in a bussines enviroment (no, not how
to develop stuff for KDE, but how KDE can be _used_ on the
desktop). So we should give them persons wich a) look like they
may represent KDE on this behalf and b) are really able to do so.
We should really be prepared for this.
I want to produce a flyer to be put in the normal KDE flyers,
wich summarizes some stuff. I will announce an IRC meeting, for
everybody interested to help with this stuff, early next week.

Booth design:

I think the design from Linuxtag with the posters and the half
gears was pretty good. (Thorsten, do we need to prepare something
for the design, or is everything still usable?) The big Konqi
should be there, too! It is definitely a eyecatcher. Anybody
looking into this? What about badges for the ppl on the booth? I
can print them on a high quality colour printer (Phaser850 or
QMScolor2) if I definitely know who will come.

I want to prepare some "templates" for showing KOffice. Everybody
using KOffice is invited to send templates to me (endres@kde.org)
since I just started using KOffice and I don't think I will find
all the nice options until the fair ;).

I am also working on some presentation for KDE/KOffice to give a
quick overview.

Concerning the computers I would suggest to use _only_ the three
computers with the LCDs for presentation, demonstration, etc.
until somebody asks for KDE3. There should not be _any_ unstable
version, _any_ decoration other than the standard or _any_
modifications to the normal stuff. It was very annoying during
Linuxtag, not to have _one_ stable system to show anything.
Almost every system was modified to some extent so it was in no
way a standard system. When we want several ppl to be able to
show stuff, we need to have one platform everybody knows. So
after showing all the nice customisations KDE is able to do, we
should revert all of them to give the next person a chance to
look good when showing stuff instead of: "where the hell is ..."
So if everybody agrees, lets setup the stuff on Sunday (or
whenever we set up the booth) and then leave it this way, so
everybody knows what to expect. Just my opinion.

Concerning KDE3, can somebody please explain to me, what we can
show beside a _very_ unstable system? I think we should focus on
the stable platform we have, wich will be included in all newer
distros until the middle of next year. (Sorry danimo :)

I, personally, would like to know some things, before I buy my
train ticket:
a) Where will I sleep?
Isn't there the possibility to get some money from the KDE League
for a place to stay? I thought it was made exactly for this.
b) Do I have to buy a fair ticket?
The tickets are cheaper when bought now, than on the fair itself.
(I thought we would get some exhebitor tickets, but apparently
this is not the case?)
c) When will we meet, does somebody know if we can get into the
place on Sunday to set up the booth? (Judging from the
experience at Linuxtag, I would suggest to start Sunday lunchtime
latest, so we can sleep before the fair opens :) When will we
take down the stuff and go back home?

Those are all details I would like to have some information about
just one week before the fair. Is somebody with more experience
than me looking into this?

I am in no way a person wich is qualified to make any decissions
or statements according to the presentation of KDE on a fair, but
I want to spend my week presenting KDE in the best way I can on
a fair, wich is IMHO, very important for the further success
of KDE in the non-hacker world. This is not Linuxtag, so we
should try to do this as professional as possible. I think we can
do a lot, when we plan the stuff _NOW_ and not next friday. I
have time to and I am willing to help in any way I can to get
things sorted out next week. So when there is anything I can do,
feel free to tell.

There will be an award by Linux New Media given away on the fair,
should we advertise voting for KDE on the dot?

Lot's of stuff, but I needed to get some of this off my mind and
some input back from the other ppl coming to represent KDE in
some way.

MfG

	Rainer "physos" Endres
