I can not reproduce in a vbox or with an ati card. (I guess you have an nvidia card).
Could you try using this code in placeMapWidget::placeMapWidget constructor?

	setScene(p_scene);
	p_scene->setItemIndexMethod(QGraphicsScene::NoIndex);
	setViewportUpdateMode(QGraphicsView::FullViewportUpdate);
}
