We can use synchrotron for big files, but we would still need hosting.
Synchrotron would just serve as the repository.

>> Hi all,
>>
>> I have been made aware that KDE Edu needs the ability to have
>> relatively large files hosted on a KDE server (other than through
>> committing them to SVN). Is this still needed? KDE now has a system
>> available which can handle these needs (<a href="http://files.kde.org" \
target="_blank">files.kde.org) which I can
>> arrange for the files to \
become hosted on.
>>
>> I can also arrange for redirects from the previous hosting locations
>> on edu.kde.org to be setup \
if needed.
>>
> Hi Ben,
>
> Indeed currently on our website space we have Kanagram files, KHangMan \
files,
> Kig macros, KLettres big tarballs (90 Mb), KStars files, Marble \
maps + some
> binaries (49 Mb).
> Not sure if they are all part of GHNS or not. They all should be moved
> elsewhere indeed.
>
> Will files.kde.org be \
suitable to use with Synchroton? who will be able to
> upload files? how?

Access to upload files to <a href="http://files.kde.org" \
target="_blank">files.kde.org will be done through SSH
access to the system \
in question, to shell accounts. scp/sftp/fish can
then be used to upload files \
(permitting the use of Dolphin to allow
files, if you have the fish/sftp kio \
slaves installed). They would
then be served under sub-urls of <a \
href="http://files.kde.org" target="_blank">files.kde.org.

At this time, it is a pure static file serving system (ie. not capable
of executing any scripts). As KDE Sysadmin has not recieved any
requests to setup Synchotron anywhere at this time, no instance exists
at the moment. I don't know how much in the way of direct access to
the files is needed by Synchotron.
