More and more KDE applications depend on internet access for extended
functionality. It would be useful to introduce a meta-server concept into
KDE, which means that a list of servers where to find resources on is stored
in a configuration file, which is updated (kept in sync) whenever a resource
is updated (or manually via KControl).

The advantage would be that if a server (like ftp.kde.org) is down, or
operation discontinues after a KDE release, the user would not notice it.

About a year ago a project was started to allow such downloads for all KDE
applications in a generalized format:
http://mindx.dyndns.org/kde/kdeshare/

However development on it stopped (mostly my fault). The implementation which
comes close to it is knewstuff in KOrganizer:
http://korganizer.kde.org/features/newstuff.html

If possible, KIO::NetAccess should not be used (use KIO::*Job instead), but if
it's only for downloading new language packs (which doesn't happen too
often), it should be ok.
