I needed to change #MIN_CONFIG to #MIN_CONFIG(3.0) in configure.in.in. 
Otherwise configure insists on Qt 3.1 which would make it KDE 3.1 only.
But it does work with KDE 3.0.

It looks very good and I am very glad to see that you managed the "button" 
problem for the chemical elements!
