There are all kinds of specialized apps. Some apps are only worthwhile if you have a scanner, some are only worthwhile if you only have a single user workstsation, some apps only if you know or are learning a language. KMail's only good if you have a POP or IMAP mail account, a situation that grows less common as people take advantage of free mail services.
