Hi everybody,

You might have read my announcment for ktopo, the topography
program. KTopo needs to retrieve information related to the
topography of a map from a file. I think that XML would
probably be a suitable format, but I'm not sure on the details
as I have virutally no experience with XML. That's why I'm
consulting here, in the hope that some of you might be able
and willing to think about the issue at hand.

The file needs to store:
- the name of the image that holds the map
- a number of "point" items, that have a name and two
coordinates associated with it and possible a 'type' such
as 'city', 'state', 'country', etc.
- a number of "area" items with a name, a variable
number of coordinates that describe the polygon that borders
the area and a type

Then there's a different issue: i18n-support for the topographical
names. [1] Any ideas on how to handle this? Should the names when
they differ from the default, also be stored in the XML file
or could it be best handled in another way?

1] In Dutch Paris, is called Parijs, London -> Londen, Berlin ->
Berlijn, Koln -> Keulen, etc, etc. I assume other languages
have the same.
